How about a chance for a new beginning and an opportunity for restoration of the heart, mind and soul? Sunshine Cove transitional housing for women who have suffered from domestic abuse offers just that! We had our first “meet & greet” in September with some of the ladies and their children. The ladies that are new to the program were very curious about Junior League and the children were, of course, excited to see the treats we brought. I watched as the committee stepped into their roles as mentors with ease and grace. I left there with an overwhelming feeling of joy and excitement for the year to come. My committee members Michelle Mariani, Ashley Chase, Joanna Wortham, Frani Broussard, Crystal Hitchcock, and Arielle Lawson-Ho have so many incredible strengths that we will be able to do incredible things as a team for the ladies. The ladies seem to immediately feel at ease with us. It was such a wonderful step forward towards building some great relationships.
The program now has 15 mothers and 25 children among them. This will be a very active year with 25 children! Michelle Marianni said, “ It was nice to see some familiar faces and new faces and catch up about the summer.” Over the summer, one of the ladies finished the 2 year program and has her own apartment and working on her degree in childhood education. Another lady is about to move to Houston to her new apartment and be closer to family. She has a new job, a new outlook on life and she said she is happier now than she has been in a long time. She thanked the Junior League for all we’ve done and said, “I will always be a big supporter of the Junior League”.We plan to take the families again to Colorado Canyon, have a spa day, out to dinner at a restaurant, quarterly birthday parties, and some new things that are in the works. Thank you all for your clothing donations for our shopping day we are planning. I will keep you informed with how it is all coming along.
How wonderful for God to give us the opportunity to share our “HANDS TO SERVE AND HEARTS TO LOVE” to those around us in need!
